SMS Blasts
Creating a new SMS blast
SupporterBase lets you send out bulk SMS communications to your group members via the SMS Blasts feature.
As an admin or group captain, you can draft, edit, approve and send SMS blasts without approval. As a vice-captain, you can draft SMS blasts, but these will be forwarded to the designated admin or group captain for editing and/or approval.
To create an SMS blast
- Use the left-hand navigation to navigate to SMS Blasts > Create New SMS Blast.
- Choose your recipient category (either Group Members or Event RSVPs/Attendees).
- If you select Group Members Select the Supporter Group you want the email to go to.
- Decide whether you want to target the blast at people who match certain levels of engagement (Private), tag filters or advanced filters.
- If you select Event RSVPs/Attendees as the intended recipients:
- Select the Supporter Group you want the SMS blast to go to.
- Select the relevant event.
- Write your SMS blast content under Body.
- Select Create SMS Blast.
- You can then review the blast and recipients, as well as edit, test of delete the blast before sending.
- If you are a vice-captain, your designated group captain or admin will be notified of the draft SMS blast, and their approval to send it will be requested.
Troubleshooting with SMS blasts
If you send an SMS blast and recipient numbers are less than expected, try adjusting the following configurations in SupporterBase:
- Go to Settings in the left hand navigation panel > Configurations > General and toggle the 'Apply NationBuilder contact preferences and unsubscribes in addition to SupporterBase contact preferences and unsubscribes' setting; and
- In the same Configurations section, toggle the 'Send SMS messages to mobile numbers that have been entered as the supporter's home phone by mistake' setting.
It's also important to note that you'll need to wait for the completion of the full SupporterBase/NationBuilder sync process for these changes to be pulled through. If you need this to happen immediately, you can manually run the syncing process by selecting the green Sync people from NationBuilder button at the top of your group page.
