Filtering tools
SupporterBase offers three key filtering systems to help you better record your interactions with, and engage, supporters. These are “levels of engagement”, “tag filters” and “advanced filters.
Note: Only admins can create or modify tags and levels of engagement for your SupporterBase. However, Captains can update which of these tags and levels of engagement are applied to individual supporters, and can create, edit and use advanced filters for their group.
To provide some background, one of the core concepts is that the tag filters are "non-exclusive" (so supporters can match more than one tag filter) whereas the levels of engagement are "exclusive" (so supporters can only ever have a single level of engagement). That's the reason an editable hierarchy exists for the levels of engagement (the order of those can be updated using the drag and drop tool). Based on that hierarchy, supporters will only appear in the highest level of engagement filter that they match (rather than appearing in multiple levels).
This is important so you can target email blasts, SMS blasts and call lists to a specific level of engagement and be confident that your message will only reach that specific group.
Advanced filters on the other hand allow leaders to create and edit filters using a combination of logic-based queries across a broader range of fields (ie occupation, location, contact history etc), then use those saved filters to determine the recipients of SMS and email blasts. Over time we plan to revise and consolidate these different filtering methods into an overarching system to help you and leaders better target your communication and supporter management.
